Chicken and the (Many) Eggs
Most of you have probably heard of the phrase: 'Which came first, the chicken or the egg?' I'm not here to argue the merits of either opinion, but all I can say is, for us, the chickens definitely came first.
We received a bunch of adorable chicks that quickly grew to full sized hens AND started laying pretty brown eggs. We were so excited to get our first egg!
If you'd like to see our video highlighting our first egg (we estimate this egg is probably worth about $2000) Please follow the link below (or copy and paste the link).

Farm fresh eggs are nutritious, you're taking care of your hens and you know what they are consuming so you also know what YOU are consuming.
We've been making fried eggs, scrambled eggs, pickled eggs, using them in cooking, preserving them, and still the eggs keep coming. More and more. Now, don't get me wrong, we love our fresh eggs, but didn't anticipate what to do with the extra.
That's something you simply must consider when getting laying hens.
Fortunately for us, we have neighbors, friends and acquaintances that like fresh eggs as much as we do, so we've been able to give away the extras. If you're feeling particularly generous, you could also donate some of the eggs to your local church, if they have set up a giving ministry for the poor.
In our area, we are allowed to sell our fresh eggs (although we have not done so yet), but this would be a good way to make up some of the feed cost for your hens.
If you have other suggestions for using fresh eggs that you'd like to share, please leave us a comment. We'd love to hear from you.
